The greateest happiness is to vanquish your enemies, to chase them before you, to rob them of their wealth, to see those dear to them bathed in tears, to clasp to your bosom their wives and daughters - Ghengis Khan
Well I hope that each and every one of you are having a pleasant break and working feverishly on any assignments you have outstanding or perhaps moving forward on some of the upcoming work. That being said I have also been spending much of this break working on my own homework (yes, I am still working on doctorate revisions..:( ), but I have also been hard at work finding new and interesting ways to go into depth with some of the topics where I feel like our very brief class period does not allow much exploration. In this I have discovered a series of short videos which amuse my nerd-self greatly and I hope that they provide you with a slightly different presentation of the content of the course. First thing I must note is that these videos are very tongue and cheek in their presentation of world history so please approach with a sense of humor (also don't be frustrated if you don't necessarily get all of the jokes, as some are references that are only amusing to generations older than yourself). The videos also go VERY FAST through specific topics or themes so feel free to pause the videos to help you with answering the extra-credit questions which accompany the videos. Some of the videos will be more appropriate for the previous unit and though that section is passed, feel free to check back to those pages to see if there are additions which could help you review key concepts. It is important to note that the presentation of the material like any other historical source is going to come from a particular point of view, so please do not get too worked up if one of the videos does not necessarily line up with opinions that have been expressed in class - part of the reason I am a fan of these videos is that the main presenter John Greene is full of nerd snark (not sure if there is a recognized definition of this word but I define it as sarcasm, wit and a touch of curt catty behavior that is employed in many of the realms of nerdom - I also am a fan of all things nerd/geek.... and do not use those terms in a derogatory manner). Now I must end my tirade and suggest that you check out new additions to the webpage and again remind you to return back often for new and exciting additions which I will strive to add on a regular basis! Below is a preview of the awesome that you will find in the new video additions:
That is just one of the quotes that was featured in the Mongol video which is on the Asia 600-1450 page. Great quote to illustrate the character of this prolific leader of the Mongol Horde.
